The sound of sirens, flashing lights, and a big red fire engine brought excitement and wide-eyed wonder to our youngest Panthers as the Virgin Islands Fire Service rolled onto the GHCDS campus for a special Fire Prevention Week visit!
Wrapping up their fire safety unit, our Early Learning Center and first-grade students enjoyed a morning of hands-on learning with firefighters from the Charles A. Seales Fire Station. Deputy Inspectors Julian Gumbs and his team of firefighters shared important lessons about fire prevention, staying safe in an emergency, and the important work firefighters do to protect our community.
Our young Panthers were fascinated as the firefighters demonstrated their protective gear and explained how each piece helps keep them safe on the job. But the biggest thrills came when students got to explore a real fire engine, try their hand at spraying water from the fire hose, and hear the siren echo across campus!
Beyond all the excitement, this special visit brought classroom learning to life, helping students develop a greater understanding of fire safety, bravery, preparedness, and the importance of our community helpers.
A huge Panther thank-you to the Virgin Islands Fire Service and our visiting firefighters for sharing their time, knowledge, and enthusiasm with our students. You made Fire Prevention Week an unforgettable learning experience for our littlest Panthers!
