Fifth Grade is kicking off a new tradition of recognizing Panthers who are making a difference every day!
This month, students launched their Monthly Awards Program, centered around the GHCDS Core Values of RESPECT, INTEGRITY, SCHOLARSHIP, POSITIVITY, and CITIZENSHIP.
For the first round of awards, Ms. Hill and Ms. G had the honor of selecting students who have demonstrated these values through their choices, attitudes, effort, and interactions with others.
A BIG Panther congratulations to our first award recipients of the 2026–27 school year: Finn, Charley, Hiro, Khattab, and Jayne!
But what makes this program especially meaningful is what happens next.
Going forward, each month’s award recipients will have the opportunity to nominate their classmates for the following month, explaining why they believe a fellow student deserves to be recognized. In doing so, students will be challenged to look beyond themselves and notice the everyday actions of the Panthers around them—the classmate who lends a hand, makes the right choice when no one is watching, works hard through a challenge, brings positive energy to the room, or helps make the community stronger.
By putting the responsibility for recognition into students’ hands, our fifth graders are learning that our Core Values aren't simply words we display—they are choices we make and qualities we can recognize, encourage, and celebrate in one another.
Congratulations to Finn, Charley, Hiro, Khattab, and Jayne for leading the way as our very first honorees!
Keep showing us what it means to be a Panther, Fifth Grade!
