Our 2nd graders celebrated International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage, and self-expression inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ beloved book, The Dot.
The story begins with one small dot—and a teacher who encourages a student to simply begin. From there comes a powerful message for young learners: have the courage to try, believe in your ideas, and see where your creativity can take you.
After reading and discussing The Dot, our Panthers received an extra-special treat: a virtual visit and message from Peter H. Reynolds himself! Students then put the story’s message into action, creating their own unique “marks” and celebrating the qualities and ideas that make each of them special.
It was a wonderful reminder that you don’t have to know exactly where something will lead before you begin. Sometimes, you just have to make that first mark!
