Good Day Parents of the Lower School,
Three weeks in, and the routines--and the fun--of school have settled in. Athletics have started, classroom charters are created, and daily schedules are now in place. Reconnecting with our returning students, and getting to know our new ones, has been wonderful! Seeing your children each day adds to the pleasure of my job; I sense a great year ahead!
An important reminder: On Thursday, Sept. 17th, from 4:30-6:00, we welcome all parents to our annual Parent Night. This is an opportunity for you to spend a "day" in your child(ren)'s class(es), getting to know their daily routine, meeting their many dedicated teachers, and enjoying some time together as a community.
Historically, the lower school has begun the evening in a brief meeting in the Pavilion, before going to classrooms. This year, we invite you to go directly to your child's classrooms and imagine how they spend their day. Please be mindful that this is not the time for 1:1 meetings with the teacher; if you have specific concerns or questions about your child, please feel free to schedule a meeting with their teacher or me for another time.
For those of you with more than one child, feel free to "divide and conquer" or move from grade to grade together.
Because we begin at 4:30, aftercare will be available to all children without cost until 4:30, when you can grab your children from the Slab (grades 3-6), or the ELC playground (grades 1-2) where they will be under supervised play. If you choose to pick them up at the regular time (3:30) and return with them later, that is perfect too!
PLEASE NOTE: There will be NO after care beyond 4:30; if you will not be attending Parent Night, children must be picked-up by 4:30.
On another note: Attached is the Handbook for Lower School. Each year you are asked to review it with your child, ensuring that your family understands the expectations and guidelines of our lower school community. There have been a few updates to the Handbook, so I encourage you to read it thoroughly. The Table of Contents is hyperlinked, so you may move from one content area to another easily.
This year, you will not be asked to sign and submit the "Acceptable Use Policy" document, rather, by having signed an enrollment contract, you have agreed to abide by the AUP and the policies outlined in the Handbook.
