Balancing It All: Tenth Graders Put Time Management to the Test

Señora Capriola welcomed her new advisory group—10 wonderful tenth-grade students! Their first days together were filled with connections, discoveries, and community-building.

During advisory, students reflected on what it takes to succeed in high school, with a special focus on time management. To bring the conversation to life, the group played a fun balloon game. Each student blew up a balloon and labeled it with the name of one class they would be taking during the school year.

At first, students tossed and managed just one balloon, representing the work and responsibilities of a single class. It seemed easy enough! Then, more balloons were added, representing additional classes, assignments, activities, and responsibilities. Soon, students were bouncing several balloons at once, trying desperately to keep them from touching the floor.

The lesson quickly became clear: managing time might feel easy with only one or two responsibilities, but as more demands were added, staying organized and keeping everything “in the air” became much more challenging.

The balloon activity served as a fun reminder that success wasn't simply about working harder—it was also about planning ahead, prioritizing, staying organized, and managing time effectively.

It was a wonderful start for Señora Capriola and her new advisory group and set the stage for a school year filled with growth, connection, teamwork, and plenty of learning together!
