We are paw-sitively thrilled to welcome Joanna Nazos to the GHCDS community as a new Upper School English teacher!
Joanna brings a wealth of experience from elementary, middle, and high school classrooms in Illinois, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Costa Rica. She holds an M.Ed. in Instructional Leadership from the University of Chicago, as well as post-baccalaureate certification in reading from the University of Wisconsin–Stout.
At the heart of Joanna's teaching philosophy is a commitment to meeting students where they are while helping each one grow. Her experience as a reading interventionist has given her a strong foundation in supporting developing readers while also creating meaningful opportunities for advanced students to stretch themselves through independent research and deeper analytical work.
Joanna believes reading and writing should go far beyond memorization. In her classroom, students are encouraged to bring their own experiences to the texts they encounter, think critically, defend their interpretations, and make meaningful connections between literature and the world around them.
We are excited for the experience, energy, and thoughtful approach to teaching Joanna brings to our Upper School and can't wait for our students and families to get to know her.
Welcome to the Panther family, Joanna! We are so glad you're here!
