Class of 2030 Takes Action for Sea Turtle Conservation

Last week, the Class of 2030 took part in a hands-on environmental service experience focused on protecting and preserving St. Croix’s coastal ecosystems.

Partnering with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge, students visited the Leatherback Lounge to support ongoing conservation efforts tied to endangered sea turtle protection. Throughout the day, the 8th grade painted beach marker stakes used to identify turtle nesting locations, decorated wooden sea turtles, and planted trees around the refuge.

The experience gave students valuable insight into the importance of environmental stewardship and the role conservation organizations play in protecting St. Croix’s natural habitats. By contributing directly to the refuge, students combined creativity, teamwork, and service while learning more about the island’s unique wildlife and ecosystems.

The Class of 2030 is proud to have contributed to the preservation efforts at Sandy Point and looks forward to continuing to grow as environmental leaders within the St. Croix community.

We extend our sincere thanks to Claudia Lombard, a wildlife biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, for hosting the class, as well as to the donors and community members whose support helped make this experience possible.
