A Celebration of Words: 2nd Grade Poetry Café

On Thursday, our 2nd grade poets took center stage as they transformed the classroom into a lively and inspiring Poetry Café!

With creativity on full display, students welcomed guests from Grades 1, 3, and 6, along with teachers and administrators, to visit their “café tables,” where each young author proudly shared their published work. From free verse and rhyming poems to haiku, limericks, concrete (shape) poems, bio poems, riddles, and guess poems, every table offered a unique glimpse into the imagination of our Panther poets.

As guests traveled from table to table, they left behind compliments and thoughtful feedback on sticky notes, giving our writers the chance to see how their words resonated with others.

Throughout this unit, students explored the art of line breaks, rhythm, and rhyme, discovering how to see the world through a poet’s lens. Using their senses and vivid imaginations, they crafted poems that turned everyday moments into something magical—inviting readers to step right into their world.

It was a joyful celebration of voice, creativity, and the power of words—and our 2nd graders truly shined.
