GHCDS Mini-Gusto: Gone Fishing!

Mr. Sinfield shared with 8 students his passion for fishing the shores of St. Croix. Using both fly rods and spinning tackle the group went to several spots on the South Shore, including Cane Garden, Howard M. Wall Scout Camp, Fareham Bay and…. While the fishing wasn’t ideal, several students landed some nice fish, including snook, blue-runners, and tarpon. In fact, Elias Rudefer (Class of ‘26) was the first to land a fish - a nice size blue-runner. It was the first time Elias had ever gone fishing. There were a few anglers who didn’t manage to catch a fish, and we lost a lot of tackle to the sea. However, the kids never lost their enthusiasm. I was very impressed and proud.

I want to especially thank GHS' 04 alum, Zak Orr who spent the week with us. Zak is a professional guide who works in Montana during the summer months; but he is very knowledgeable about fishing the shores of St. Croix. He was indispensable in teaching the boys how to cast, as well as helping me untangle lines and change lores. Zak is a parent at GHCDS, and he and his wife Mary own and operate the Melee Cocktail Company and Melee Mobile Bar. They have two mobile bars that we have built for events, parties, weddings, and catering. I certainly will give them some business.
