Taking Agriculture to New Heights: 6th Graders Explore Drones

As part of this year’s Agricultural Fair theme, “Agriculture and Technology: An Ideal Mix in 2026,” our 6th graders have been diving into the exciting world where innovation meets farming. The class recently spent time with Mr. Krigger, learning about drone technology, its real-world applications, and how these tools are transforming modern agriculture. After building foundational knowledge, students had the opportunity to engage in hands-on experiences, sparking curiosity and deeper understanding.

Through this project, students are discovering how drones are used on farms to monitor crop health, map fields, assess irrigation needs, track livestock, and improve efficiency while reducing environmental impact. They are learning how aerial data helps farmers make smarter decisions—using technology to save time, conserve resources, and increase sustainability. These explorations encourage students to think critically about how technology can solve real-world problems and support food systems of the future.

This work strongly connects to our Cambridge curriculum, which emphasizes inquiry-based learning, research skills, analysis of data, and real-world application of knowledge. By integrating STEM concepts—including engineering, technology, environmental science, and data analysis—students are developing skills aligned with our broader goals of fostering innovation, collaboration, and global awareness.

Be sure to visit the GHCDS booth at the Agricultural Fair to learn more about drone applications in farming and see how our 6th graders are imagining the future of agriculture through technology!
