We are bursting with pride as we congratulate Tsahai Alfred ’23, whose journey since graduating from Good Hope Country Day School has been nothing short of extraordinary. A St. Croix native and fearless storyteller, Tsahai has been named Editor in Chief and President of The Columbia Daily Spectator—the nation’s top-ranked student newspaper and the second-oldest college daily in the United States. From restarting the Panther Post as a GHCDS student with a tiny team and a big vision, to now leading one of the most influential student newsrooms in the country, Tsahai’s path has been defined by courage, persistence, and a deep commitment to ethical, community-centered journalism.
Tsahai’s love for journalism took root right here on campus, where she learned the power of asking questions, uplifting voices, and telling stories that matter. That passion carried her through impactful reporting internships, meaningful community-focused journalism back home on St. Croix, and now to the heart of national discourse at Columbia University. Whether advocating for informed communities, holding institutions accountable, or navigating complex and controversial topics with integrity, Tsahai continues to embody the very best of what it means to be a GHCDS graduate.
As the first Black Editor in Chief of The Columbia Daily Spectator, Tsahai is making history while shaping the future of journalism—grounded in truth, service, and a belief that good journalism can strengthen democracy and build belonging. Congratulations, Tsahai! Your GHCDS family is incredibly proud of you and can’t wait to see where your voice and leadership take you next.
