2025 National Art Honor Society Induction Ceremony

The GHCDS National Art Honor Society (NAHS) and National Junior Art Honor Society (NJAHS) Chapter 1714 proudly welcomed 7 outstanding new members this year!

As student-led organizations, NAHS and NJAHS are dedicated to promoting artistic excellence, leadership, and service within our school and the wider community.

Being inducted into an honor society is a significant achievement—it reflects not only artistic talent, but also commitment, character, and a willingness to use one’s creativity in the service of others. Our new inductees have demonstrated these qualities beautifully.

Congratulations to:

11th graders Sawyer Holley, Aletha Bremer,

10th graders AJ Mauro, Zyrie Denbow,

9th graders (NJAHS) Jameson McHale, Makeda Hardcastle, and Danya Yusuf.

This year’s ceremony was made even more meaningful thanks to our inspirational guest speaker, Lucien Downes.

Lucien Downes—a Caribbean-born artist and curator—shared his powerful perspective on creativity, culture, and the role of artists as storytellers. Known for his evocative mixed-media work that blends spiritual and worldly themes, Downes’ artistic journey began during his time managing Pearl Paint in Atlanta, where exposure to countless materials inspired the development of his unique voice.

His art has appeared in prestigious spaces—including the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts, and private collections of icons such as Maya Angelou and Teddy Riley. Through initiatives like his New Blood exhibitions, he continues to uplift emerging Virgin Islands artists, championing community, culture, and creative expression.

Thank you, Lucien, for inspiring our students with your passion and wisdom.

And congratulations to our new NAHS/NJAHS members—thank you for using your talents to shine a light on the importance of the arts in our GHCDS community and beyond!
