The Early Learning Center’s Little Learning Garden is bursting with life — thanks to the generous donation of time, materials, energy, and (literal) dirt from the McPherson-Samuel family (Tristan, Class of ’27, and Jasper, Class of ’38)!
Our youngest Panthers have been busy learning how to plant seeds and vegetable starts, guide vines up a trellis, and care for their soil. They’ve also become keen observers of nature — spotting fungi, identifying aphids, and watching as Ms. Christina treated the plants organically.
The excitement reached new heights when the children harvested 12 healthy cucumbers from their vines! Even though some curious aphids made a home there, the students’ enthusiasm was unstoppable — most couldn’t get enough of their homegrown cucumbers, asking for seconds, thirds, and even fourths!
Their exploration continued with a sensory tasting of three different varieties of basil, lessons on how bees help pollinate flowers, and hands-on planting of bean seeds in the Kindergarten garden beds. Now, we’re all keeping an eye out to see whether the young iguana spotted nearby will resist the temptation to sample their sprouts!
From soil to harvest, every step of this project has been a living science lesson — one that celebrates curiosity, patience, and the joy of growing together.
