Fifth Grade Book Club Dives Into Realistic Historical Fiction!

There’s nothing quite like the excitement of opening a new book — especially when that book takes you on a journey through history! Our fifth-grade Book Club has officially kicked off its new unit on Realistic Historical Fiction, and the enthusiasm is contagious!

As young readers explore stories set in different time periods, they’re discovering how authors blend real historical events with fictional characters and adventures to make the past come alive. Through rich settings and powerful storytelling, students are learning how ordinary people lived, worked, and faced challenges in extraordinary times.

Each meeting will include thoughtful discussions, creative reflections, and hands-on activities that help readers connect emotionally and intellectually to the worlds they’re discovering. Whether they’re stepping into the shoes of a child living through the Great Depression or imagining life during the Civil Rights Movement, our fifth graders are learning that books are more than stories — they’re time machines that build empathy, understanding, and perspective.

The 5th grade is buzzing with excitement as these young historians turn each page — ready to see where their next great story takes them!
