Fire Prevention Week Sparks Excitement at GHCDS!

The sound of sirens and the sight of flashing lights brought wide-eyed excitement to our youngest Panthers as the Virgin Islands Fire Services rolled onto the GHCDS campus for Fire Prevention Week!

Deputy Inspectors Julian Gumbs and Wilson Ferrance, Firefighters Angel LeGrand and Khalif Gerard, Corporal Terrance Christopher, and Firefighter/EMT Paul Bermudez spent the morning with our Early Learning Center and first-grade students, teaching them how to stay safe in case of a fire — and what it takes to be a real-life hero.

The students were fascinated as firefighters showed off their protective gear, explaining how each piece keeps them safe in the line of duty. But the highlight of the day? Getting up close to the bright red fire truck, spraying water from the giant fire hose, and, of course, hearing the blaring siren echo across campus!

This hands-on visit wasn’t just fun — it was a valuable learning experience that taught our youngest Panthers about safety, bravery, and community service. A huge thank-you to the Virgin Islands Fire Services team for igniting curiosity and reminding us all that fire safety starts with awareness and preparedness.
