Our fifth graders had an unforgettable adventure during their field trip to the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts (CMCArts), followed by some fun at the park and a sweet stop at Polly’s for ice cream!
Led by Kaden and Jessica, the class explored the vibrant Labiosa textile exhibit, which beautifully connects to their current Social Studies unit on Virgin Islands culture. Students were fascinated to see madras and other local fabrics come to life through art — and they’ll soon be incorporating VI madras into their own upcoming classroom projects.
After exploring the exhibit, students participated in a mixed-media art workshop, creating their own window scenes inspired by the exhibition. They also took part in an art scavenger hunt, discovering the many ways art tells the story of our island’s heritage and friendships — a perfect tie-in to this month’s VIPR Friendship celebrations.
This hands-on, creative experience reminded our Panthers that learning extends far beyond the classroom — it’s about exploring, expressing, and celebrating our culture together.
Teachers and families, don’t miss this opportunity!
Field trips for grades PreK–12 are free and open through November 8 at CMCArts.
