Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at GHCDS!

Each year from September 15 to October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month is observed across the United States as a way to honor the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. The celebration begins on September 15, a date that marks the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries, and continues through October 15 to include Día de la Raza (Day of the Race).

At GHCDS, our Upper Division artists are honoring this important month by getting busy with hands-on crafts inspired by Hispanic traditions. Seen here are the beginnings of the paper-mâché process that will transform into vibrant Vejigante máscaras from Puerto Rico and festive piñatas, both of which hold deep cultural and historical significance.

Through these creative projects, our students are not only developing artistic skills but also gaining a deeper appreciation for the rich cultural heritage that Hispanic communities bring to our world.
