Hands-On Science in 6th Grade: Plant Cell Models

In 6th Grade science, students explored the benefits of making models as a way to deepen understanding. Working collaboratively, each group designed and built their own plant cell models using materials of their choice, sparking both creativity and critical thinking.

During a “gallery walk,” one representative from each group presented their model, explaining how its parts represented the different structures of a plant cell. Students then rotated to each table to observe, ask questions, and make connections.

To wrap up the activity, groups reflected on their designs and identified ways to make their models even more accurate—an important step in learning how science is always a process of refining and improving.

This engaging project not only brought plant cells to life, but also encouraged teamwork, communication, and problem-solving—skills that strengthen both science learning and Panther community.
