Building Panther Community Through Play and Connection

At GHCDS, our 4th–6th graders have been working hard to build a sense of community, kicking off the year with fun, collaborative games like Capture the Stuffie, the Circle Up Game, and team Relay Races. While these activities may look like simple play, they are powerful tools for Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

Community-building exercises create shared experiences that help students connect with one another, strengthen communication, and practice teamwork. They also provide opportunities for students to discover more about themselves—how they contribute as individuals within a group, how to listen, and how to lead.

Starting the school year with a strong foundation of trust and collaboration sets the tone for everything that follows. When students feel safe, supported, and connected, they are more open to taking risks, more resilient when challenges arise, and more engaged in their learning. At GHCDS, we know that strong relationships are the heart of a positive and productive year—and we’re proud to see our Panthers beginning their journey together with enthusiasm and Panther Pride!
