Advisory in Action: Building Community Through Teamwork

At Good Hope Country Day School, Middle School and Upper School advisories collaborate to establish shared agreements that support a healthy and functioning community. This process not only creates a positive learning environment, but also gives students hands-on experience in practicing essential life skills.

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the second most important attribute employers seek is the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Advisory provides students with a safe space to build and refine these skills—such as active listening, compromise, leadership, and accountability—while also fostering mutual respect and trust.

Through these advisory activities, our students learn that strong communities are built on cooperation and shared responsibility. By practicing how to collaborate now, they prepare themselves to be thoughtful classmates, effective teammates, and responsible leaders in the future.
